The gāndharva said: "O king! Living in the hermitage, Adṛśyantī gave birth to a son who was the extender of Śakti's lineage and was like a second Śakti.
गंधर्व ने कहा: "हे राजा! आश्रम में रहते हुए, दृश्यंती ने एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया, जो शक्ति के वंश का विस्तारक था और दूसरी शक्ति के समान था।
O best of the Bhārata lineage! The best of the sages, the illustrious one, himself performed the prescribed birth ceremonies of his grandson.
हे भरत वंश के सर्वश्रेष्ठ! ऋषियों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ, महामहिम, ने स्वयं अपने पोते का निर्धारित जन्म संस्कार किया।
Because the sage Vaśiṣṭha had resolved to kill himself, but refrained from doing so when he heard of the son in the womb, he was known in the world by the name of Parāśara.
चूँकि ऋषि वशिष्ठ ने स्वयं को मारने का संकल्प कर लिया था, लेकिन जब उन्होंने गर्भ में पुत्र के बारे में सुना तो उन्होंने ऐसा नहीं किया, इसलिए वे दुनिया में पराशर के नाम से जाने गए।
From the date of his birth, that virtuous one knew Vaśiṣṭha to be his father and behaved towards him like a father.
अपने जन्म की तिथि से वह धर्मात्मा वशिष्ठ को अपना पिता जानता था और उनके प्रति पिता के समान व्यवहार करता था।
O Kaunteya! O scorcher of enemies! When the child addressed the Brāhmaṇa riṣi Vaśiṣṭha as 'father 'in front of his mother Adṛśyantī,
हे कौन्तेय! हे शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले! जब बालक ने अपनी माता अदृश्यंती के सामने ब्राह्मण ऋषि वशिष्ठ को 'पिता' कहकर संबोधित किया,
she heard the sweet word, so full of meaning, uttered by him. Adṛśyantī spoke to him with tears in her eyes.
उसने उसके द्वारा कहे गए मधुर, अर्थ से भरे हुए शब्द को सुना। दृश्यंती ने आंखों में आंसू भरकर उससे बात की।
Adiparvan · v7
मा तात तात तातेति न ते तातो महामुनिः रक्षसा भक्षितस्तात तव तातो वनान्तरे
"O son! Do not use the word father. The great sage is not your father. O son! Your father was devoured by a rākṣasa in the deep forest.
"हे पुत्र! पिता शब्द का प्रयोग मत करो। महान ऋषि तुम्हारे पिता नहीं हैं। हे पुत्र! तुम्हारे पिता को घने जंगल में एक राक्षस ने खा लिया था।"
O innocent son! The one you think of as your father is not your father. The illustrious one is the father of your famous father."
हे नादान पुत्र! तुम जिसे अपना पिता समझते हो, वह तुम्हारा पिता नहीं है। वह प्रसिद्ध व्यक्ति आपके प्रसिद्ध पिता का पिता है।"
Having been thus addressed, the best of riṣi-s was grief-stricken, because he always spoke the truth. The great-souled one resolved to destroy all the worlds.
इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर श्रेष्ठ ऋषि दुःखी हो गये, क्योंकि वे सदैव सत्य बोलते थे। उस महान आत्मा ने सभी लोकों को नष्ट करने का संकल्प लिया।
On seeing him thus resolved, the great-souled Vaśiṣṭha, great in austerities, gave reasons for refraining. Hear them.
उन्हें इस प्रकार दृढ़ संकल्पित देखकर, तपस्या में निपुण, महात्मा वशिष्ठ ने तपस्या से दूर रहने का कारण बताया। उन्हें सुनें.
Vaśiṣṭha said: "There was a great king known by the name of Kṛtavīrya. In this world, that bull among kings had as his priest the Bhṛgu-s, learned in the Veda-s.
वशिष्ठ ने कहा: "कृतवीर्य नाम से विख्यात एक महान राजा थे। इस संसार में, राजाओं के बीच उस बैल के पास वेदों के विद्वान भृगु लोग थे।

स तानग्रभुजस्तात धान्येन च धनेन च सोमान्ते तर्पयामास विपुलेन विशां पतिः
At the end of his somā sacrifice, the king gratified those who are the first receivers of offerings with many presents of grain and riches.
अपने सोम यज्ञ के अंत में, राजा ने उन लोगों को अनाज और धन के कई उपहार देकर संतुष्ट किया जो प्रसाद के पहले प्राप्तकर्ता थे।
When that tiger among men had ascended to heaven, there came a time when his descendants were in need of riches.
जब मनुष्यों में से वह बाघ स्वर्ग पर चढ़ गया, तो एक समय आया जब उसके वंशजों को धन की आवश्यकता थी।
Adiparvan · v14
ते भृगूणां धनं ज्ञात्वा राजानः सर्व एव ह याचिष्णवोऽभिजग्मुस्तांस्तात भार्गवसत्तमान्
O son! Knowing that the Bhṛgu-s were affluent, those kings went to the best of the Bhṛgu-s, in the disguise of beggars, to ask for riches.
हे वत्स यह जानकर कि भृगु लोग धनवान हैं, वे राजा भिखारी के भेष में धन मांगने के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ भृगुओं के पास गए।
To save their indestructible riches, some of the Bhṛgu-s buried them in the ground. Fearing danger from the Kṣatriya-s, others gave away their riches to Brāhmana-s.
अपनी अविनाशी संपदा को बचाने के लिए कुछ भृगुओं ने उसे जमीन में गाड़ दिया। क्षत्रियों से खतरे के डर से, दूसरों ने अपना धन ब्राह्मणों को दे दिया।
O son! Some of the Bhṛgu-s gave them as muc of riches as they wanted, thinking that some other use might be found for the Kṣatriya-s.
हे वत्स कुछ भृगुओं ने उन्हें उतना धन दिया जितना वे चाहते थे, यह सोचकर कि क्षत्रियों के लिए कोई अन्य उपयोग हो सकता है।
O son! Then one day, some of the Kṣatriya-s, according to their wishes, dug up the ground in the dwelling place of the Bhṛgu-s and discovered a treasure. All the bulls among the Kṣatriya-s, who were assembled there, saw the treasure.
हे वत्स फिर एक दिन, कुछ क्षत्रियों ने, अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार, भृगुओं के निवास स्थान में जमीन खोदी और एक खजाना पाया। वहाँ एकत्र हुए क्षत्रियों में से सभी बैलों ने खजाना देखा।
Thereafter, angry and contemptuous, those supreme archers shot down the Bhṛgu-s with their sharp arrows, though they craved for mercy. They travelled all over the earth, killing even children in wombs.
तत्पश्चात क्रोधित और तिरस्कृत होकर, उन श्रेष्ठ धनुर्धरों ने अपने तीखे बाणों से भृगुओं को मार डाला, हालाँकि वे दया की इच्छा रखते थे। वे पूरी पृथ्वी पर घूमे, यहाँ तक कि गर्भ में पल रहे बच्चों को भी मार डाला।
O son! When they were killed in this way, many Bhṛgu wives fled in fear and sought refuge in the mountains of the Himālaya-s.
हे वत्स जब वे इस तरह मारे गए, तो कई भृगु पत्नियाँ डर के मारे भाग गईं और हिमालय के पहाड़ों में शरण लीं।
Among them was a lady with beautiful thighs. She resolved to perpetuate her husband's race and kept her immensely energetic embryo hidden in her thigh, so that it might not be discovered. But the Kṣatriya-s discovered the Brāhmaṇa lady, who blazed in her radiance.
उनमें एक सुन्दर जाँघों वाली महिला भी थी। उसने अपने पति के वंश को कायम रखने का संकल्प लिया और अपने अत्यंत ऊर्जावान भ्रूण को अपनी जाँघ में छिपाकर रखा, ताकि उसे पता न चल सके। लेकिन क्षत्रियों ने ब्राह्मण महिला की खोज की, जो अपनी चमक से जगमगाती थी।
Then the child appeared, tearing her thigh open and blinding the eyes of the Kṣatriya-s like the midday sun. Thereupon, deprived of their eyesight, the Kṣatriya-s began to wander around in the difficult passes of the mountain.
तभी वह बालक प्रकट हुआ, जिसने उसकी जाँघ को फाड़कर दोपहर के सूर्य के समान क्षत्रियों की आँखों को अँधा कर दिया। तत्पश्चात, अपनी दृष्टि खोकर, क्षत्रिय पर्वत के कठिन दर्रों में इधर-उधर भटकने लगे।
Frustrated in their desire and frightened, those bulls among the Kṣatriya-s sought refuge with that unblemished Brāhmaṇa lady, so that their eyesight might be restored.
अपनी इच्छा से निराश और भयभीत क्षत्रियों के उन बैलों ने उस निष्कलंक ब्राह्मण महिला की शरण ली, ताकि उनकी आँखों की रोशनी वापस आ सके।
They were out of their minds with pain. They had lost their eyesight and were like a fire that has been put out. Those Kṣatriya-s spoke to the lady.
वे दर्द से आपे से बाहर हो गये थे। उनकी आँखों की रोशनी चली गई थी और वे बुझी हुई आग की तरह थे। उन क्षत्रियों ने महिला से बात की।
"O illustrious lady! Through your grace, may the Kṣatriya-s regain their eyesight. All of us will depart from here with our evil deeds.
"हे महान महिला! आपकी कृपा से, क्षत्रियों की आंखों की रोशनी वापस आ जाए। हम सभी अपने बुरे कर्मों के साथ यहां से चले जाएंगे।
You and your son should show us mercy. You should save these kings by restoring their eyesight to them."
तुम्हें और तुम्हारे पुत्र को हम पर दया करनी चाहिए। आपको इन राजाओं की आंखों की रोशनी लौटाकर उन्हें बचाना चाहिए।”
